So, Thursday afternoon saw the start of the preparations. The first thing completed were the lavender bunches for the flower girls. This had been Kims idea at our first meeting and I have to say I love it. They are so cute. She had a definite idea that she wanted to use lavender throughout the flowers, but, being out of season I suggested dried. They look just as good and the smell was divine!
Next up was the pew end ring frames made from cornus branches (pics further down) then I had a little practice with my lovely new glassware and then on to the bridesmaids bouquets.
I loved everything about these bouquets. I think they are my favourite bridesmaids flowers in a long time. All the spring flowers were gorgeous, the colours were beautiful and the smell was out of this world. Sprigs of the dried lavender were dotted throughout the tulips, freesia, lisianthus and hyancinth.
A few hours break now for my ‘other’ job. It was a walk round to school armed with snacks, books and nintendos to occupy boys 1, 2 and 3 while I went into parent teacher meetings. Two good reports later and a little lighter in the pocket due to reward money, it’s home. Homework, dinner, soccer training for 1, street dance for another and then finally it’s bath time. The ultimate in multitasking sees me wiring leaves for buttonholes while number 3 has his bath.
Bed time arrives, all goes quiet and I get ready for a night shift. I love the peace at this time! Sit down with my fire going, a nice cuppa, everything I need for my wiring and a 2 part silent witness on the sky planner! Blissful…
I wired individual freesias, lisianthus, hyacinth pips (individual flowers of the hyacinth flower) and the dried lavender. I also wired the ranunculus stems for Kims bouquet for extra strength.
It was then time to move back into the workshop to assemble everything. Firstly, Kims bouquet. Shown here, a really classy mix of ‘Patience’ David Austin roses, ranunculus and lavender.
The buttonholes were a mix of freesia, lavender, hyacinth pips and lisianthus.
The grooms buttonhole was made up of ranunculus and lavender to match Kims flowers.
Cute corsages were made up for the flower girls cardigans and finally fall in to bed at 2am
A few hours sleep then an early start to put the finishing touches to everything and box everything up.
After dropping the boys where they need to be I make my way over to Peter in Killiney and then Kim at Summerhill House Hotel. She seemed delighted with the flowers and even found time to give me some sweets for the boys! I was overwhelmed – such a thoughtful thing to do among the chaos of your wedding morning.
I headed back over to Killiney and set up the church. There were very strong winds on the day so the bay trees had to be moved inside. I set up the vases on the altar, the chairbacks and pew ends and then dotted little vases around the walls next to the altar.
I lit the candles just as the first guests arrived and headed off to pass a couple of hours.
Everything had run so smoothly and I really enjoyed working on this wedding. Even the few hours waiting to collect everything was perfect – in a few moments I was beside the sea in the pretty town of Dalkey enjoying a quiet coffee!
Congratulations Kim & Peter. I can’t wait to see some of the professional shots of the day – I’m sure it was a great day as you are such lovely people!
